[신종코로나] 필리핀서 신종코로나 첫 사망자 발생…중국 외 처음

[파이낸셜뉴스] 필리핀에서 신종 코로나바이러스 감염증 환자가 처음으로 사망했다. 중국 이외 국가에서 신종 코로나 확진자가 숨진 것은 이번이 처음이다.

2일(현지시간) 외신들에 따르면 프란시스코 두케 보건부장관은 이날 기자회견을 통해 중국 우한 출신 44세 남성이 전날 신종 코로나바이러스 감염으로 사망했다고 발표했다. 이 남성은 지난달 21일 필리핀에 도착했으며 필리핀에서 처음 신종 코로나 확진자로 분류된 38세 중국인 여성과 동행한 남성이었다.

현재까지 필리핀에서는 이들 두 명 만이 신종 코로나바이러스 감염 확진 판정을 받았으며 이 남성은 지난달 25일부터 격리돼 치료를 받아왔다.

두케 장관은 "입원 치료 중 심각한 폐렴 증세가 나타났다가 최근 며칠새 증상도 호전됐지만 지난 24시간 사이 환자 상태가 악화되면서 숨졌다"고 설명했다.

필리핀 주재 세계보건기구(WHO) 대표부의 라빈드라 아베야싱헤는 언론에 "중국 이외 국가에서 신종 코로나 환자가 사망한 것은 처음"이라면서도 "필리핀 내에서 감염된 것은 아니며 바이러스 진원지인 우한에서 온 사람"이라고 일축했다.
