At the Podium - Making Interruptions

In this week’s article we look at making interruptions as an audience member. Next week we will cover how to handle interruptions as the speaker. Although interrupting a presentation is considered impolite, it is sometimes unavoidable or even necessary. As an audience member, it is desirable to know how to make an effective but polite interruption. Being polite can even apply in hostile situations, although the language may differ. The textbox contains good interruption expressions with the more polite expressions first and the more aggressive expressions last.

Excuse me, could I just interrupt you for a moment?

Excuse me, could I just jump in here?

If I may interrupt for a second, could you…?

If I could just jump in here at this point to make a comment.

Could I just come in here for a moment?

Sorry to interrupt but, I beg to differ.

Could I just add one thing?

I would like to say something at this point.
