(서울=연합뉴스) 정빛나 기자 = 찰스 3세(74) 영국 새 국왕이 9일(현지시간) 런던 버킹엄궁에 처음 입성했습니다.
엘리자베스 2세 여왕의 서거로 왕위가 자동 승계된 지 하루 만에 새 군주로서 첫 공식 일정 소화에 나선 것입니다.
그는 이날 오전 부인인 커밀라 왕비와 함께 상복 차림으로 스코틀랜드 밸모럴성을 나서는 모습이 취재진 카메라에 포착됐습니다.
왕실의 일원으로서 수많은 인파와 플래시 세례를 받는 건 어제오늘 일이 아닐 테지만, 생각에 잠긴 듯한 얼굴에서 이전과는 다른 무게감이 느껴집니다.

스코틀랜드 애버딘 공항에서 전용기를 타고 런던 서부에 있는 왕실 공군 노솔트 기지에 도착한 국왕 부부는 왕실 리무진을 타고 버킹엄궁으로 향했습니다.

국왕 부부 도착 전부터 버킹엄궁 앞에는 엘리자베스 2세를 추모하고 새 국왕을 환영하려는 인파로 가득했습니다.
시민들은 '하느님, 국왕을 지켜주소서'(God Save the King)라고 노래를 부르기도 했습니다.
영국 국가인 이 노래 제목과 가사에서 여왕이 서거한 전날까지만 해도 '여왕'(Queen)이었는데, 이제 '왕'으로 바뀐 것입니다.

시민들에게 화답한 뒤 걸어서 버킹엄궁에 입성한 찰스 3세는 이날 오후 첫 TV 대국민 연설에서 "평생 헌신한다는 엘리자베스 2세 여왕의 약속을 오늘 여러분께 되풀이하겠다"고 밝혔습니다.
