Sichuan has become known as 'the capital of bitcoin mining' as entrepreneurial Chinese set up 'mines' there due to its abundance of hydropower, perfect for the high electricity needs of the large number of computers required for Bitcoin mining. Bitcoin mines are buildings with warehouse-like structures equipped with massive numbers of microprocessors with which 'miners' solve complex math problems and are rewarded in the digital currency. The industry exists in a legal gray zone in China, and the miners in this story, concerned about attention from the government, asked not to have their full names or the names of the villages where their mines are located mentioned in this story. [파이낸셜뉴스] 파산 위기에 몰린 비트코인 채굴회사 그리니지 제너레이션이 가상자산 핀테크업체 뉴욕디지털그룹(NYDIG)과 7470만달러 규모의 채무를 구조조정하기로 합의했다.
그리니지는 20일(현지시간) 미국 증권거래위원회(SEC)에 제출한 서류에서 "현금 소진은 지속 불가능하며 회사 이사회는 '자발적 파산 신청의 가능성과 시기'에 대해 적극적으로 논의하고 있다"고 말했다. 이어 "회사의 재무 상태에 대한 불확실성과 기업으로서의 지속 능력에 대한 상당한 의구심이 남아 있다"고 밝혔다.
그리니지에 따르면 올해 10월과 11월 월 평균 현금 소진률이 800만달러다. 이 중 550만달러가 매월 NYDIG에 대한 원금 및 이자로 지출된다고 회사 측은 설명했다.
그리니지는 재정 부담을 완화하기 위해 NYDIG에 상환해야 하는 총 부채 7470만달러를 5700만~6800만달러로 조정하는 상환조건에 합의했다고 밝혔다.
이번 합의에 따라 NYDIG는 초당 2.8엑사해시(EH/s) 상당의 그리니지의 비트코인 채굴기를 구매하는 대신 5700만~6800만 달러의 부채를 소멸시킬 예정이다. 이에 따라 그리니지는 1.2 EH/s 상당의 채굴기를 보유하게 된다.
그리니지는 NYDIG의 기계를 호스팅해 자체 채굴에서 호스팅으로 비즈니스 모델을 효과적으로 변경할 계획이다.
